Details

Made in August 2022 by textile artist, sculptor and fashion designer Hope Okere
Repurposed block printed silk from Seek Collective, silk organza, thread, metal hook, beach stone from Santa Barbara, CA.

Ekundayo is a Nigerian name that means sorrow has become joy. A study of wrapping and balance, created by first quickly wrapping and knotting the fabric around the rock, then drafting a pattern to fit the rock. The silk is then draped back onto the rock and hand pleated and tacked in place. Baby hem edge finishing. The organza tie is braided at the top portion. Made with three layers of wrap, all three are stitched together at the end to create a hold that will not break. Gravity is part of the sculpture.
